UBC Botanical Garden and Canopy Walkway

Lately I have been very busy with my studies. I'm taking a pretty intensive program which don't give me a free time at all. This week is pretty hard for me because I have several exams. However, today after the one of them I decided a little relax and come back to my blog.

In August this year my husband and I visited Botanical Garden located on the campus of University British Columbia. This is a typical garden. However, we liked very much canopy walkway there, several bridges on the trees located pretty high and the bridges swing (some shots below).

By the way, in the garden we saw a grass-snake (I hope it was a grass-snake :)). Actually, I'm afraid of any kind of snakes but decided take some shots (you can see them in this post).

If you have any questions about the garden, please ask me. I will be happy to answer.

Heron

September is the beginning of a busy time for me because a new term for study starts. I hope sometimes I can find a time for my passion in photography. Today I'd like to share photos of a heron, one of the graceful birds.

When I went for a hike in Capilano Salmon Hatchery, Capilano River Regional Park, I saw one beautiful bird trying to caught fish. It was a heron. The bird can don't move a long time that helps you to take photos.

Capilano Salmon Hatchery

Today I'm going to share with you a lovely place where you can go for a hike and also see many salmons. It is located not far from Capilano Suspension Bridge, in Capilano River Regional Park.

The weather was so sunny so some of my photos are exposed, unfortunately.

Stanley Park

Today I would like to present one of the beautiful parks of Vancouver, Stanley Park. Many tourists visit this park every year. This park is different in every season. In summer, there are many gorgeous roses.
I've already shared some photos with flowers from  Stanley Park that was taken in April. Also photos of squirrels are from there. By the way, Vancouver Aquarium is located in this park too. In general, many pictures were taken there.

This park is an amazing place to relax and enjoy the nature. It combines  age-long trees, a garden, and a beach. You can do different activities there. I f you are in Vancouver, you should to visit it.

These photos were taken at the beginning of July this year.

Barnet Marine Park

Lately I haven't had a time to blog because of my studies. But now I've decided to find some time for sharing some pictures that was taken about two weeks ago. Recently we've found out a new beautiful park near a bay in Burnaby in which we'd never been before. Burnaby is a city located immediately to Vancouver. I would say, and not only me, this city is a part of Vancouver.
There is a small beach and many places for barbecue. It's a pretty place to take a rest in. By the way, I took some photos of birds at that place.

Birds 2

When I started to take pictures of nature, I realized such a beauty around us. Usually we're always in a hurry  to somewhere and don't really notice other creations that live on our planet. For instance, we can see a variety of birds with different appearances, and every species is unique and interesting. One of the first birds in Canada that I caught with my camera is in May's post

Last weekend I observed a small guy that bask in the sun (the first shot). It  took to the woods every time when people went past it.  It's so cute.

Roses 2

At once the roses are flowering again. Last weekend I was in the Burnaby Mountain Park and took some pictures of these beautiful flowers after rain. Now I'd like to share them with you.

Lynn Canyon

Yesterday I with my friends went for a hike in Lynn Canyon, North Vancouver. There are many trails for hiking. Also there is located another suspension bridge about which I mentioned earlier, 50 metres above the canyon. We were walking 3.5 hours; it was great despite the fact that we got caught in the rain. There are some photos.

Queen Elizabeth Park

One of the beautiful parks I've ever seen is Queen Elizabeth Park located in Vancouver. It's so colorful, an, by the way, it's absolutely free.

Here are the photos taken last year with a simple camera in May (по-русски мыльницей :) ) and semi-professional camera in September 2011. You can see a difference between them.

Chinese Garden

Last weekend my husband and I were walking in the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden in Vancouver.  Big fish and turtles are swimming there. For me it's was so interesting; I was looking at them like a child. The park is small but beautiful. I think I will go there again some day.  Here are some pictures from there.

Vancouver Aquarium

It rains again in Vancouver. Where can you go when the rainy or cold weather? One of the places is the Vancouver Aquarium. You can go there either alone or with your family. It relaxes when you just watch fish. There are different kind of colorful fish and more. Here is just some of them.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

While it's again raining in Vancouver, I decided to return to my hiking in Capilano Suspension Bridge in April. The suspension bridge was originally built in 1889; it's 136 metres long and 70 metres above the river.

Recently cliffwalk, like small bridges, became another plus of this place. When I was there last April, they just mentioned about it. Now it's already open.

Moreover, this place has a mini-museum about native people.

This is the interesting place, but it's expensive (for one adult - $31.95) and too small for hiking. I bought the membership for one year since the price was the same for one visit and for membership for a year. By the way, another suspension bridge is located in Vancouver, a little shorter. It's absolutely free and there is also a beautiful place, but about it some another time :)

Here are some pictures were taken by a simple camera and weren't processed. Dates of taking pictures are April 2011 and 2012. So, this post is not about the photos but about the place.

Birds 1

At last the summer came in Vancouver on weekends. Yesterday I was walking in the Burnaby Mountain park.  The weather was sunny and I enjoyed it. I was trying to find birds to take pictures with them while my husband was reading a book. Finding birds was not easy because they hid in tall trees; nevertheless, I made some pictures.
Since I could take pictures from far, so I cropped them to see birds closer. As a result, noises  appeared  on some photos. I tried to fix it, so the result you can see below. Please, tell me what you think.

I don't know how they are called except  the Great Tit (Синицы) . If you know, please share with me.

Roses 1

While it's cold in Vancouver again, I've wanted to find a small piece of summer. I remembered  roses that I was taken in August last year. It was one of the first my experience with my new camera then. I started to learn how to use it with different settings, so some pictures a little exposed. Anyway I decided to show them to you.

University of British Columbia

Like everyone, I don't want to stay at home on weekends, so my husband and I decided to go for a walk and depart to University of British Columbia (UBC) where he studied. The campus is very beautiful. There are some buildings in a different style; I'm going to show you some of them right now.

Biodiversity Museum

There are some museums on the campus of  University of British Columbia , which everyone can visit. So, last weekend I decided to visit one of them. I chose the Biodiversity museum. The reason was that I bought the tickets to go there with discount. :) Now you'll see a few pictures from this museum  where are located different collections of birds, fish, plants and so on.

At first, of course, the blue whale skeleton attracted my attention because it's the largest animal in the world ever existed.

Lookout in Vancouver

Recently I visited many different places, and one of them was the "Lookout" tower  which is located atop the Harbour Centre business building in Vancouver. The weather was sunny and I enjoyed the view from there. You can see the whole city with bird's-eye view. After the long rain winter here, it was a pleasure to look at the clear sky. Here are some pictures from there.

The first one is the tower itself from which you look at the beautiful city.

The  view is amazing from there. Do you agree with me?

Flowers

Recently I was in Stanley Park and enjoyed the colorful and beautiful view there. If you're going to visit Vancouver, you should go there. At this time of the year you can see different flowers such as tulips, narcissus, pansies and so on. Some of them I would like to share with you here.

Squirrels 1

Last summer I eventually understood that I really love to take pictures. I very often went for a hike, and I liked to take a camera with me and take different pictures of nature. I replaced my simple hand-held camera with the semi-professional camera. Then I started to learn more about  how to take the photo and study Photoshop on my own. However, when you study by yourself, sometimes it's difficult to notice what you're doing wrong and find the way to correct it. As a result, I've decided to write this blog in the hope of getting feedback and advice from you about my work. Any comments are welcome :). I'm just an amateur in photography but want to be able to do it well.

For my first post I've chosen some pictures with squirrels that I took recently. There are many squirrels in Vancouver, which was a surprise for me when I came here. Before coming to Canada, I saw squirrels just in a Russian zoo and didn't know that squirrels (and especially raccoons) can go on the streets or parks.

Moreover, I'd never seen black squirrels before coming to Canada. Here is some of them.

These pictures were taken in Stanley park, one of the most beautiful parks in Vancouver.
